Hello.

I’m Melissa, the owner, creator, and educator of Mama Miss Art Studio. I love inspiring art experiences in children and seeing their imagination and art skills flourish in my classes.

My art class philosophy is that everyone is an artist, and that, “there are no mistakes in art”. As a homeschool art educator and private art educator I allow my students to learn in a way that fills their needs -through the process. There is no wrong or right way in my classes. We start class with learning about the artist through an artist study, next I demo the materials and the technique, then the students dive in and start CREATING their own masterpieces! Process art allows for my classes to be a non-stressful environment, with loads of positive energy and the space to let my students creativity flow freely.

Mama Miss Art Studio classes are a special place in the art community for kids of all ages to explore, create, imagine and grow their love of art.

“There are no mistakes, only happy accidents.” ― Bob Ross

A Little About Me

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and have over 10 years of experience teaching art in various settings, including as a homeschool art instructor, private school art teacher, public school art instructor, and private art tutor. In addition to teaching, I work as a freelance graphic designer.

Beyond art, my professional background spans teaching, retail management, fashion merchandising, fashion marketing, fashion show production and management, visual display merchandising, visual styling, and graphic design. This diverse experience brings a unique perspective and creative approach to everything I do.

Product Art vs. Process Art

I believe in nurturing creativity through process art rather than focusing solely on the final product. My teaching style encourages exploration, experimentation, and self-expression, allowing students to engage with materials freely and develop their own artistic voice. Instead of aiming for a “perfect” outcome, I emphasize the joy of discovery, problem-solving, and embracing mistakes as part of the creative journey. By fostering an open-ended approach, I help students build confidence, think independently, and develop a genuine love for making art.
