Eric Carle was the vibe this week ✂️🐛

For our mini camp artist study, we dove into the world of Eric Carle—not just as an author, but as a celebrated illustrator whose process is just as magical as his stories. We took time to learn how he created his signature layered papers… and then made it our own 🖌️🎨

The first half of class was all about creating our materials—texture rubbings, watercolor washes, acrylic stamping, printing, and rolling to design richly layered, one-of-a-kind papers.

Then came the best part… we carefully cut into our handmade pieces and transformed them into vibrant scenes, inspired by Carle’s style but completely original to each mini artist 💛

The even bestest part?! The kids took it even a step further & several of them made moving parts on their pieces - on their own!!!! THIS!!! This right there fills my heart with so much joy - when they totally and completely dive into their artwork ☺️

A little messy, a lot creative, and fully Mama Miss Art Studio magic. ✨

And here it is… my Wednesday private art class’s final year art show 🤍

Even though this group has been together for three years, this show is just from this past school year.

A full year of book-inspired projects, new materials, and lots of creative problem-solving. It’s been really fun to watch their ideas grow and their individual styles start to take shape.

LAST MINUTE MINI CAMP! 🎨✨

School’s now out this Tuesday—so we’re making art!

Join us for an Eric Carle inspired Artist Mini Camp, where we’ll explore colorful, layered collage techniques and textures. Did you know Eric Carle (think The Very Hungry Caterpillar) was not only a beloved author, but also an incredible illustrator? We’ll take a closer look at his unique style and create our own vibrant, textured artwork inspired by his process.

As always, this is process art—no two projects will look the same, and kids are encouraged to create freely, experiment, and make it their own.

Please pack a nut-free snack and drink.

One of my absolute favorite classes… my Wednesda

One of my absolute favorite classes… my Wednesday private art girls 🤍

Today felt like the end of an era. I’ve been teaching this sweet group for the past three years, and now one of them is heading off to middle school.

What made this group extra unique is that their art curriculum was inspired by their book club—every project connected to the stories they were reading, which made it all the more meaningful and fun to create together.

For their last class, we created something extra special to remember our time together. My son 3D printed tiny bookshelves and frames, and the girls illustrated little versions of the books they read this year. We turned them into the cutest mini shelves, and I added their names into a frame (of course I had to turn mine into a magnet 🥹).

While this group will continue, it will look a little different in the fall… and I know I’ll be feeling all the feels 🤍

Stay tuned next week for their final year art show so you can glimpse all the things they created this year.

I’m going to miss this group of girls so much 🤍

These pipe cleaner cakes are actually functional jars — because we love art that’s both playful and purposeful.

Think: texture, color, pattern, and a whole lot of playful maximalism 🎂✨
Every single one turns out completely different, and that’s exactly the point.

This is what we’ll be creating during our Design Elements workshop on Thursday 4/2 — where kids get to build, layer, and design their own over-the-top cake creations (with a surprise twist inside 😉)
