🍭 Candy Land might officially be one of my favo 🍭 Candy Land might officially be one of my favorite weeks yet! 🍩🍰🍦

This week was all about sweet treats, playful design, sculpture, texture, and LOTS of color. We explored artists who turn food into art and then used their work as a jumping-off point to create our own very sweet collection.

Throughout the week, our campers:

🍦 Created 3D Ice Cream Cone Canvases inspired by Peter Anton
🧁 Built colorful Pipe Cleaner Cake Jars inspired by Kate Jenkins
🍰 Designed Cardboard Cakes inspired by Wayne Thiebaud — layering patterned paper, washi tape, beads, pom-poms, string, and all kinds of bits & bobs
🍩 Designed and decorated Felt Donuts inspired by Lucy Sparrow, choosing their own colors and toppings, complete with their own little donut boxes
🍪 Became miniature food artists inspired by Stephanie Kilgast, sculpting teeny-tiny desserts and designing their own Miniature Bakeries
🍫 And for our Creator Spotlight, we learned about Milton Hershey and made GIANT Hershey Kisses!

Six projects, six completely different ways to explore food, art, materials, and design. 💕

And just like every camp week, the best part was watching everything become completely their own. Give a room full of kids the same project, the same supplies, and the same starting point…and somehow you end up with a gallery where no two pieces look alike. THAT is the good stuff.

We finished out the week with our Friday Art Show, filling the studio with cakes, donuts, ice cream cones, tiny bakeries, GIANT Hershey Kisses, and some of the most colorful creations imaginable. Seeing everything together at the end of the week is always so much fun — especially after watching each piece come together little by little all week.

🍬 Candy Land 2026 is officially a wrap!

And now we’re down to our FINAL TWO weeks of Summer Art Camp!

🎨 Chromatic Creations — Aug. 3–7
🦋 Winged Wonders — Aug. 10–14

A few spots are still available in both!

🐾 What a wildly creative week! Critter Collect 🐾 What a wildly creative week!

Critter Collective wrapped up last week, and I couldn’t be more proud of what these young artists created.

Last week we explored the work of Manuel Jiménez, Katie Kimmel, Lucy Sparrow, Helen Musselwhite, and Clare Youngs, discovering how artists can transform ordinary materials into imaginative creatures and colorful worlds.

Throughout the week our campers:
✨ Sculpted their own Alebrijes
🌿 Created mixed-media habitats for their handcrafted Alebrijes
🦁 Crafted colorful Patterned Animals inspired by layered paper and washi tape
🎨 Designed playful Creature Pencil Cups
🐟 Created Felt Sardine Tins

The week ended with our Friday Art Show, where families wandered through the gallery, read about each featured artist, and celebrated the incredible creativity behind every piece.

One of my favorite parts of camp is watching the projects stop looking like my sample and start looking like theirs. Every camper brings their own ideas, creativity, and personality to each project, and that’s what makes the final art show so much fun.

🍬 Candy Land is officially underway this week, and we’re having a blast so far!!

There are still a few spots available in our final two weeks of summer camp:

🎨 Chromatic Creations (Aug. 3–7)
🦋 Winged Wonders (Aug. 10–14)

I’d love to create with your kiddos before summer comes to a close! 💕

IDENTITY STUDIO 🎭✨ This week wasn’t just a IDENTITY STUDIO 🎭✨

This week wasn’t just about making art…

It was about discovering who we are.

Throughout the week, our artists explored four big questions through contemporary artists and creative design:

👤 Who am I? → Custom Funko Pop inspired by KAWS
💛 What do I love? → Identity Mirror inspired by Lydia Rowley
📦 What do I collect? → Decoden Collection Box + Favorite Things Shrinky Dinks inspired by Josie Lewis
🧠 How does my imagination work? → Doodle Explosion inspired by Jon Burgerman

Along the way, campers learned about each artist, experimented with new materials, and discovered that our interests, imagination, collections, and creativity all help tell the story of who we are.

On our final day, each artist also created an Identity Studio Journal—filled with doodles, signatures from new friends, color palettes, artist licenses, camp memories, and creative prompts—a little keepsake to remember an amazing week together.

Friday wrapped up with our Identity Studio Art Show, where families explored the gallery, read artist bios, and celebrated every unique creation. Seeing each child’s custom Funko displayed in its own collector box, every Decoden box filled with a favorite-things keychain, and all of the projects showcased together made for a really fun museum-style exhibit.

What an incredible group of artists. 💜

Next up… Critter Collective! 🐾

Design Lab was packed with creativity from start to finish. This week our artists explored the work of Tinker Hatfield, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, and Camille Walala, discovering how each artist transforms everyday ideas into bold, imaginative art.

From candy-inspired sneaker designs and geometric sculptures to colorful balloon dogs, Murakami flower pillows, and pattern-inspired creations, every project reflected each child’s own unique style and imagination. Watching our gallery fill up throughout the week was one of my favorite parts!

Now we’re getting ready for Identity Studio—a week all about self-expression, color, and personal style. One of the highlights? Every camper will design and create their very own custom Funko Pop–style mini figure inspired by themselves!

✨ Artist Study: Kindah Khalidy ✨ In our homes ✨ Artist Study: Kindah Khalidy ✨

In our homeschool artist study, we explored the wildly colorful, joyful world of Kindah Khalidy — a California-based painter and textile designer whose work is basically a celebration in brushstroke form. 🎨

Her abstract paintings are bursting with bright colors and playful, child-like shapes — and every time you look, you notice something new.

Kindah works across painting, textiles, and even cake (!), and her aesthetic is all about bold, colorful, multi-textured work that makes you feel something the moment you look at it. We love how her art reminds us that creativity doesn’t have to follow rules — it just has to be alive.

Our artists channeled her signature style by cutting out bold cardboard shapes, layering them with glue guns, and going wild with the most vibrant paints they could get their hands on. The results? Pure Kindah energy. 🌈

@kindahkhalidy — thank you for the endless inspiration!

We’re SO close to getting this class up and runn We’re SO close to getting this class up and running ✨

This actually came about from a mom reaching out looking for something consistent for her art-loving daughter — something that fit their schedule, felt meaningful, and taught real art skills… and I loved the idea so much, we decided to build it!

A small-group creative experience for kids ages 7–10, focused on building confidence, exploring creativity, and learning foundational art elements and principles.

I’ve had a great response so far — I’m just looking for 1–2 more artists to officially make this small group happen!

This will be a weekly class where projects can grow week to week, giving kids the space to really explore, create, and take pride in what they’re making.

If your child loves art (or you’ve been looking for something more consistent for them), this is such a special opportunity 💛

Eric Carle was the vibe this week ✂️🐛 For Eric Carle was the vibe this week ✂️🐛

For our mini camp artist study, we dove into the world of Eric Carle—not just as an author, but as a celebrated illustrator whose process is just as magical as his stories. We took time to learn how he created his signature layered papers… and then made it our own 🖌️🎨

The first half of class was all about creating our materials—texture rubbings, watercolor washes, acrylic stamping, printing, and rolling to design richly layered, one-of-a-kind papers.

Then came the best part… we carefully cut into our handmade pieces and transformed them into vibrant scenes, inspired by Carle’s style but completely original to each mini artist 💛

The even bestest part?! The kids took it even a step further & several of them made moving parts on their pieces - on their own!!!! THIS!!! This right there fills my heart with so much joy - when they totally and completely dive into their artwork ☺️

A little messy, a lot creative, and fully Mama Miss Art Studio magic. ✨
